Music to get you moving!

When I get out of my routine, daily activities it is harder for me to find the time and motivation for a great workout. I like to throw in some extra fun to get me excited about it, so look what I have found! Christmas music for a workout! I hear all the booty bump music at the gym and a different change of pace might get me inspired for a few workouts over the holidays! I just didn't think I would ever jam out to Amazing Grace quite like this!

I hope that you make exercise a priority. Have the whole family go for a walk, a jog, or play a game together. Enjoy the music!

Blessed!

I feel lucky that I am surrounded by so many people who are focused and determined to be the best person that they can be and then they also want to help others become their best! One of my goals for 2008 was to surround myself with people who would inspire and encourage.... Look around, they are everywhere! All of the people, clients and coaches, at Crossfit Central have taught me so much this year! Thanks!

How to get in the Frenzy!!!

It seems like the main problem for most people to get started working out is making the time. So, I was thinking today about "how did I get started...I have not always been so eager to push my body to new limits."
What got me was I started the No Matter What strategy.....
In the beginning I told myself, 20 minutes a day, No Matter What! And, ya know...I think that is still what pushes me. Most days, I feel like doing more than that, but 20 minutes is not much. It can be a walk, playing with a kid, chasing your dog, or doing some pushups, situps, or squats...

Do whatever it takes NO MATTER WHAT to squeeze in 20 minutes and I think you might start seeing encouraging results!

And, if you need more motivation than that, maybe this silly video that I just happened to run across, will get you moving!

Turkey Time

Oh the holidays are so exciting!!! If you read any magazines at all, they are all saying "DON'T Gain Weight This Season"

I say..... be prepared, be smart, be active, and enjoy yourself....

1.Prepare by making sure there will be veggies, salad, etc served with all of the other deliciousness. Balance what you eat by trying to put lots of greens on your plate first. It is okay to indulge in some goodness, knowing that most of your intake is veggies.

2. Be smart by making good choices. If you choose to eat too many carbs like bread and sweets, you will feel tired, bloated, and miserable. You will enjoy your family much more if you feel good. So, remember what you put on your plate will determine how you feel, so be smart.

3. Be active with your family and do something like taking a walk or palying a game. Get your heart rate up!

4. Enjoy yourself by thinking of food as fuel and focus on your great company instead of the pies.

Most of all don't stress, all of your hard work during the year is not going to dissipate after one day.

How does your child measure up?

http://apps.nccd.cdc.gov/dnpabmi/Calculator.aspx

I just came across this calculator that might assist you in figuring out your child's body mass index. The BMI should help you in determining how healthy your child is by comparing them to other children. Beware that you do not base all of your thoughts on one calculation. Consider their physical activity, nutrition, etc.... This calculator just uses a formula and may not be completely accurate in all circumstances!
Happy Measuring!

Be Careful....Your Thoughts are your Future!

I strongly believe that what you think about is what you will bring about so....watch your thoughts!
If you think positive fantastic things will happen...then they will!!!
And,
if you dwell on negative ideas they will definitely occur.

Just like the food you eat effects your mood, your thoughts effect your future!
Try it...it works!!!!
You will feel better and great things will begin to unfold!

Sedentary Kids

What foods should they eat? What vitamins should they take? Did they get enough sleep?
As a parent, there are million things to worry about with your child.
They are all important, but maybe if we decrease the amount of time that they are sedentary, we can lessen some of the other worries!

http://www.cnn.com/2006/HEALTH/diet.fitness/06/20/hb.kids.gym/index.html

This article recommends 10 minutes of physical activity after every 60-90 minutes, depending on the age of your child. I am not an expert, but I believe that if we are able to focus on more physical activity it is almost guaranteed that your child will.....
-develop healthy sleep patterns because they will be tired at bedtime.
-be more likey to choose better food choices because they will need "real" energy to fuel their play and most likely be aware of how food makes them feel.
-develop more social skills while playing with others.
-have less medical issues.
-develop a more creative and active minds through play.
-be able to focus more on the task at hand when they are expected to sit down and be still.
-have healthy bodies and minds!

It does not matter what they are playing, it can be very simple,as long as they are up and active!

The best Monday of the year!!

This is the best Monday of all the Mondays, because we get to do everything an hour later than normal!! I always wish for one more hour before I have to go anywhere and today is the day one day of the year, when you can get it! For example, I woke up at 5 a.m. and it was really 6 a.m.

So I think, if you are looking for a change, this week is the best week to start an early morning workout because you can trick your body! It is not really as early as the clock says! Go to bed early, then wake up early, and try a workout. It feels great to get it done and over with, in the morning, instead of anticipating it all day. I never thought I would be someone who could be the "Crazy Early Bird Exercise Person" (as I thought they were called) but it feels so good! Plus, I am able to get it over before other things get in the way. If your schedule permits, I challenge you to try it out this week and see what you think!

They were slamming the balls so hard that it looks like they are flying!! These junior Girl Scouts from the Lake Point area were finding out how much fun fitness can be...
Those that were lucky enough to beat Jeremy decided he should do handstand pushups and those of us that lost to Jeremy did some burpees, while screaming "I love burpees!!!"

Feeling Cozy?!

I believe that we must step out of our comfort zone in order to achieve great things. All of my best expereiences are of times when I stepped out and felt uncomfortable. Usually when I feel like I want to sneak out of the situation and go home, thinking that no one will notice, is when if I push it through, great things will happen.

I tell you this because lately I have been feeling like that in alot of areas. There have been lots of changes in my life so I feel it at work, in relationships, and I feel it with Crossfit in my own workouts. However, I know that it means that I am growing. I am increasing my capacity to do something new that I never thought that I would be able to do.

So, when was the last time that you felt that uncomfortable feeling about something you were doing. If it has been a while, then I challenge you to seek it out. I remember when I first started Crossfit, Jeremy told me "if your workout doesn't make you nervous, then you are probably doing the wrong workout." Who would have thought that even after two and a half years, I would still get nervous about doing a workout? That means that I am still being challenged and in turn still growing and learning!

Brownies can do anything!

These pictures really need sound clips attached for you to capture the whole experience. Jeremy and I had another group of brownies and they were full of life and energy! These crossfit kids did the warm up and competed in relay races in order to be titled "Crossfit Chicks" while earning a fitness badge. They ran, screamed, sang, squatted, played, skipped, and were great at cheering for each other. They answered all of my questions with "Brownies can do anything!" I wish all girls could feel like they can do anything. It was exciting!

Fight Gone Bad

Most of all I loved watching all of you at your most intense moments when you were pushing your hardest. I hope that everyone experiences what that feels like and looks like to "give it every ounce" The reason that I am in this is to share that feeling, to share that emotion. I don't want to live life, coasting and not feeling. I want to know what it feels like to "intensively live life" and I love seeing someone else exhibit exactly that!!!! Great job team! I am proud to be a member of such a positive experience! Thanks for all of the donations from fantastic friends!!

Ripped Backs and Six Packs

Watch this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnq1MhnK0XA

Their ripped backs and six packs are not the reason that I posted this, the best part for me is that these ladies are probably moms/ wives/ normal people just like you and me who probably have a million excuses not to do it, but they do. The best part for me is that they are putting it all out there and pushing the limits! This video inspires me because these ladies are so focused and determined. They have discipline and momentum! I am not there yet, but you better watch out, here I come...

Crossfit Chicks

This weekend we had our first Girl Scouts fitness training, called "Crossfit Chicks". That was probably the most fun that I have had in months! I loved seeing them get excited to be active and enthusiastic about sweating it up! The girls were so full of life and into it! Better yet, their moms did not come prepared to work up a sweat, but they got involved and participated as well. They inspired me and made my whole weekend! I went there to share what I know and left feeling like I had learned more than they did! Thanks girl scouts, I hope we can do that again!

Why I am here...

I am overwhelmed by the state of obesity and the common lack of physical activity in our children today. I would like to do something about it! Crossfit Kids is my way of sharing my love for fitness with the children in my community and being a part of the change that I want to see in the world!

Working with kids has always been my passion; they bring me joy and inspire me tremendously. I have been a teacher of many different levels, foster parented, been a camp counselor, a nanny, and anything else that I could find that would mean that I got to talk and play with kids.

Crossfit has been, like many other things for me, a continuum of learning. I think that I get a little more driven to be the best, every time that I break a sweat. In the beginning, I began to work out only for me, then I began finding out that I really enjoy sharing it with others. Recently, I got my Level 1 Certification because I am ready to move up to the next level of teaching others my excitement for living the best life. I get so excited that I get teary eyed watching others push their limits and achieve their goals. There is nothing more exciting to me than seeing or hearing of amazing accomplishments that were started by one or two small goals. I hope to help children and their parents experience the feeling of enjoying life in the body that they are in!
